The Downhole Technology Centre (DTC) is an independent facility, funded jointly by the industry and governmental bodies, where drilling and downhole equipment, techniques and training can be developed, tested and demonstrated without the risks and costs associated with live offshore wells. Its facilities, which include the world's largest land rig, three wells, including the world's only open access horizontal well, and a range of support equipment are available for subcontract on a wholly confidential basis to the industry The DTC is actively engaged in promoting the development of new oilfield technology and hence in enhancing safety, efficiency and cost reduction in drilling and production operations
