DTC's rig is equipped with a Martin Decker Spectrum 1000 digital driller's console. This provides rig floor digital and bar graph displays of all major rig parameters. It also provides throught the Prism software package, remote data display and data logging on a stand-alone PC.

Rig sensors are connected to a signal conditioning unit installed in the SCR house. The conditioned signals are then transmitted to the rig floor console and to the data logging PC.

Internal analogue to digital conversion has 12 bit resolution on all channels. Data logging frequency is software specified with a maximum frequency of one data set per 10 seconds.

Internally, parameters are updated every second. For each parameter, the logged values can be selected as minimum, maximum or mean of that parameters's value over the logging interval. Data is logged onto 3.1/2"DOS floppy disks in a standard spreadsheet readable .DIF format.

Permanent cabling also takes the raw sensor signals into one of the client workshops. It is possible for clients to connect their own data collection and logging system to the sensor signals at this point without interfering with the operation of the rig floor console or the existing data logging system. Inputs exist on the Spectrum/Prism for additional sensors to monitor and to log other parameters. These will accept 0-10 V DC, 4-20 mA, and pulsed sensor signals.

There is also a conventional Totco driller's console, with analogue display of hook load, weight on bit, line load, pump stroked, pump pressure, rotary speed, rotary torque, and rig air pressure. Analogue display of standpipe and choke pressure is available at the driller's choke console.
