The unit is based on the same principle as the Laboratory P-MAC systems, 2000 series and 4000 series . All function on the principle of monitoring the increase in differential pressure across a capillary loop caused by the deposition of scale on the internal surface of the tube.
The 2014 series differs from the laboratory models in that it does not require a pump but relies on the pressure in the process or wellstream as the driving force. The back pressure on the system is maintained by a flow control valve adjustable between 5psi and 500psi. The application of back pressure allows the system temperature to be maintained above 100oC.
To maintain the test coil at constant temperature it is placed in an oil bath which is capable of maintaining a constant temperature up to 150oC.
The pressure profile produced from the differential pressure transmitter is then signal conditioned and displayed as a scaling profile on a flatbed chart recorder.
The complete system is built in three modules, each built into a sturdy aluminium carrying case for ease of transport.
All wetted parts are constructed of 316 stainless steel as are the test coils and flow control valves.
