2. Technical Scope

Many of the asset challenges and RTD requirements identified in this report are relevant to petroleum provinces world-wide. However, special emphasis is given to offshore exploration and production for oil and gas on the Northwest European Continental Shelf.

Technical issues both above and below the sea-bed are addressed with specific emphasis on those involving:

• the interaction of produced/injected fluids with rocks;

• well-bore technology;

• sub-sea production technology;

• the marine environment.

Topsides facilities and interactions between production facilities and the marine environment fall outside the scope of the study.

The report aims to promote the targeted application of all relevant science and engineering disciplines.
