Table 6 Well productivity and improved recovery

RTD TOPICS/ OBJECTIVES Category
1. To develop lower cost, more reliable and widely applicable technology to effect E + TE + CR produced water-shut off in reservoirs. 2. To improve understanding and management of injected fluid dispersion in TE + CR water and gas flooding. 3. To improve capability for water and gas (WAG) IOR technology through: TE + E - improved understanding of sensitivities with respect to reservoir heterogeneity; - improved candidate selection. (Asset focus of the above topics: field development and production) 4. To improve understanding of gas condensate production processes in near TE + E well bore region, for example through: - enhanced experimental methods for studying gas condensate processes; - improved understanding of the effects of finite gas solubility on flow processes and production; - better understanding of oil mobility at low oil saturation associated with condensate drop-out around producing wells; - optimisation of gas recycling. (Asset focus: HP/HT field development and production) 5. To develop more effective screening tools for selecting candidates for different TE + E IOR processes as a pre-requisite for optimal use of an IOR toolkit. 6. For chemical IOR technology, to develop systems more robust to TE + E geological/temperature uncertainties; flow diversion technology stable at HP/HT conditions; relative permeability modifiers; intelligent systems which seek out high water saturation zones; novel methods for improving viscous oil recovery (e.g. downhole heating) 7. More generally, to improve understanding of sensitivity of fluid flow and TE + E residual oil saturation to kinds of reservoir heterogeneity. (Asset focus of the above topics: improving recovery and extending life of existing fields) TE- technology enhancement. CR- cost reduction. E- enabling.
