PSTI has received a prize of £15,000
for facilitating the technology transfer of Project Hedera, a
basin modelling software application for geological modelling
used in the exploration industry when assessing the hydrocarbon
potential of a region.
Hedera predicts the amount and timing of
oil generation through:
This software is now licensed to PGS Tigress
and marketed world-wide.
Hedera was a PSTI facilitated project funded
by the Oil and Gas Projects and Supplies Office of the DTI and
Amerada Hess. The idea was initiated by Amerada Hess and driven
forward by a PSTI team led by Robert Johnson, PSTI's Director.
The project involved collaboration with technical staff in Amerada
Hess and Aberdeen University. Four other universities (Glasgow,
Oxford, Newcastle and Royal Holloway) were involved throughout
the 3.5 year project.
Mr Ian Taylor, Under Secretary of State
for Science and Technology, presented the award to PSTI at the
DTI's London HQ during Science, Engineering and Technology week.
PSTI will use this money, together with similar contributions
from PSTI and industry, to create closer links between universities
and industry, particularly SMEs. The funds will catalyse further
innovation through university-industry collaboration.
