QC Data specialises in providing advanced geo-technical and spatially related data management services to the Petroleum, Government and Utility industry sectors. QC Data is an international company with offices in Canada, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
QC Data will be the Prime Contractor for CDA. GeoQuest, a division of Schlumberger, one of the largest suppliers of services to the oil and gas industry worldwide will provide it's LogDB TM software which will work in conjunction with QC Data's Information Hub TM Software and System. GeoQuest will also support the loading of historic well log data and provide other support services under contract to QC Data.
QC Data as Prime Contractor brings direct experience and expertise in developing and managing a fully operational, integrated geographical, geological and geophysical data management system in Canada. This system manages over 25 distinct data sets (well logs being only one), relating to over 250,000 wells and delivering this information to over 225 clients using advanced high speed remote communications. CDA is also expected to require the development of a similar integrated system to manage geographical, geological and geophysical data with digital well log data being the initial application.
Following the CDA Limited and QC Data contract finalisation, QC Data will move quickly to commence the loading of all available historical well log data, the recruitment of the QC Data operations team and the establishment of London and Aberdeen operations to support the system and provide services to the respective client bases. The system is expected to go live in the Autumn of 1995.
QC Data shares CDA's vision of an industry wide system that will significantly reduce costs and increase efficiencies through the sharing of exploration and production data, systems infrastructure and expertise. We congratulate the effort and commitment of the CDA participants and look forward to working in partnership and the continued development and expansion of this important industry initiative.

In partnership with QC Data, GeoQuest will supply CDA with both its industry-leading log data archiving system (LogDBTM), and specialist knowledge in well log management to ensure the highest quality standards are achieved.
Formed in 1992 by the merger of GeoQuest Systems Inc. and Schlumberger's Data Services Division, GeoQuest is the newest member of the Schlumberger Oilfield Services family, which includes Wireline & Testing, Geco-Prakla, Anadrill, Sedco-Forex and Dowell. GeoQuest's charter is to provide Reservoir Characterisation Software, Data Management Services and IT Services, to help E&P companies maximise the value of their data. With over 1200 staff and more than 80 offices spanning 40 countries, GeoQuest is able to offer oil companies unprecedented levels of support: world-wide.
LogDBTM was originally developed in collaboration with Shell, to provide a secure archive and retrieval system for downhole data. Emphasis is placed on validation and quality assurance of the input data, preservation of the complete information content of the field data by maintenance of the original format, and robust cataloguing and retrieval tools. LogDBTM meets the needs of the petroleum industry for a secure archive which preserves the value of these precious assets.
LogDB is only one part of GeoQuest's comprehensive data management strategy which spans all aspects of Archival, Master and Project database management tools for the full spectrum of E&P data. In addition to leading software applications like LogDB, GeoQuest provides a complete service which includes provision of hardware, networking, telecommunications, IT and domain specialist support.
