The group has four main areas of activity as follows:
This is essentially a fast response group which can carry out a wide range of plant process investigations using radioactive materials. Investigations can vary from using sealed sources to determine the integrity of the internals of the vessels such as distillation columns to the measurement of flow rates or the determination of liquid and gas residence times in process plant using unsealed radioactive material.
The control of process plant in a harsh environment can be a problem. Sealed radioactive sources together with reliable radiation detection system can be used to measure for example liquid and gas levels inside vessels and those levels can then be controlled within relatively tight tolerances using the instrumentation.
A density of process streams can also be measured.
Tracerco has recently developed an environmental monitoring station which utilises on line instrumentation to measure and record the quality and quantity of discharged effluent.
Tracerco has developed a range of radiotracer services to enable the operator to improve performance.
A policy of ongoing research and development ensures that the latest field technology is available in this area.
There is a legislative requirement that under certain conditiona, any employer using or encountering raidoactive materials in the course of carrying out his business must appoint a radiation protection adviser, (RPA).
The Radiation Protection Advisory Group of Tracerco act in that capacity for both Tracerco and ICI C & P Ltd. The expertise available has been utilised by many companies, including major oil/gas operators.
In additon to providing RPA support a varied programme of training is also available
